Hi there, I’m Tim Bukher. I like to wear hats.

In fact I wear many hats. These days, I’m a Board Director, Chief Operating Officer and CLO at Flare Networks, an incredibly promissing layer-1 protocol that I think will change the world. Seriously. Other days, I’m a venture capital and securities consultant at Bukher LLC, where I focus on emerging industries (mainly blockchain). And even other days, I teach Brazilian jiu-jitsu at a school and retreat, Finca Los Lobos, that I built on my property in Costa Rica.

Oh. I also try and find time to share my theories on game theory and economics, mainly how blockchain tech can change our reality at HackerNoon. Where do I find all this time? I don’t. That’s why I’m a jack of many trades, easily master of none.

This is my personal website where I mix and match my interests; be they investing, opining on trends in crypto regulation, applying BJJ training habits to Forex trading, or waxing quixotic on my obsession with game theory and how it applies to all of the above.

Some more about me (because you’re still reading): I immigrated to the US from the former Soviet Union in 1989 (then I immigrated again, to Costa Rica, in 2019). I don’t have an accent (when I speak English), unless you have an incredible ear for accents. I studied economics, more specifically econ & game theory, at NYU. Earned my law degree at Cardozo. A few years out I founded a law firm which grew too big for my liking, so I left and started a smaller firm — I guess I spend too much time with startup founders. I’ve been fortunate to connect with and advise some fairly major companies in some very cool new industries, hence my focus on cool new industries.

I think fiction, the novel to be clear, trumps non-fiction in every possible use case (if you try to prove me wrong, I’ll just prove you lack creativity). I don’t have cauliflower ears because I don’t get caught in triangles or, maybe, I just tap early. I believe that good lawyers do, in fact, need to know math. I like to pretend that I’m a good lawyer, but I may be slightly better at jiu-jitsu…

Much love,

T
